Tea-dle-Dee Scones
Owner of Tea-dle-Dee Julie Elhard, known to some in the area as a performer and teacher on the viola da gamba, began her business in late 2005. Having baked countless scones for friends when they came over for tea, she kept trying to improve on the recipe she'd learned from Australian friends while studying music in The Netherlands. After a while her friends began encouraging her to sell her scones. Now she is doing just that.Packaged under the name of Tea-dle-Dee, the mixes are extremely easy to bake, use organic ingredients and are manufactured in the Twin Cities. Although the product has not yet completed the certification process for organic labeling, 95% of the ingredients are certified organic. Julie knew she was interested in offering a new product to consumers only if it was both good tasting and healthy. She has included a spelt flour mix in her line, and the packages contain instructions for making the scones dairy-free and/or vegan.
